Example of a Solderable Jumper/Switch

This was taken from SparkFun's FTDI Basic Breakout It shows on the backside of the board. You can see it in the schematic like this:
 
and it shows on the board like this (this is a mirror image since it's showing the backside of the board through the front).


You can use an X-acto knife to cut the trace joining the pads, and easily get the functionality back with a blob of solder.
